The dreaded flame traps

Post by bootie3367 »

Right chaps, took out the injector and old flame trap (#1 was leaking slightly)
Injector looks fine even under a magnifying glass, fair bit of dirt and crud in the threads and in the threads in the well.
Managed to clean them out OK without too much going down the hole!
So my question is, which is the correct way to install the flame trap.
Yes I looked at the orientation of the old one before removing but just to make absolutely sure I put the new in the correct way......
Can somebody please tell me 100% the correct orientation for the new trap?

Waiting with bated breath.

Righto Dave, yep, got that and all back in and running.
There is a problem though, I must have damaged the return line nipple as it now leaks from there!
Thought it was the rubber at first so changed that to a nylon 'tight fit' tube.
Found out it was the nipple by taking that nylon return off, bocking up the nipple hole and squeezing the other side hose. I can see fuel coming up at the base of the nipple and then going back in when released.
Looks like I need a new or another injector............... buggeration!

Jon

PS would these be the ones?

Yep, same code Brian, gone ahead and ordered one.
Also talking to a mate of mine who refurbishes injectors back in the UK.
So far he has said not to throw the old one out he has an idea and will get back to me........

So I got another (old) injector and fitted that, no leaks but by the sound of the knocking the spray pattern must be bad.
Couple of questions...
Firstly, do I need to replace the flame trap every time I change the injector?
Second, with these injectors, is it feasible to take the top off the one that doesn't leak and put it on my nozzle which had a known good spray pattern?
I read that the pressure was controlled by the shims inside, well obviously I'm not wanting to change any of that, just have a good spray pattern to stop the knock.
I hasten to add the knock was not there before I changed the injector.
Anyone with super duper injector knowledge help here please?

Cheers
Jon
