Best clutch for 2.1 / 1.8T

Post by youde4 »

Hi all

I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips on what's the best clutch available for a 2.1 Syncro. I'm putting a 1.8T in there using a diesel bell and installing at 50 degrees. I'm planning to get it remapped once complete so it will be running up to 200bhp, therefore needing something a bit more substantial than the standard 2.1 disc!

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben,
the Sachs 2.1 clutch should be adequate for standard tune which is around 150 bhp and 210Nm
Stage 1 chip for early engines will only give 180 bhp on the standard K03 turbo but the torque jumps to 350Nm.
Later engines with the Ko3s turbo will make more power and torque. At 50 degrees you may have problems with the turbo oil drain and also clearance for the inlet manifold.
AFAIK in America where quite a few of these are running they use standard clutches.
Neil aka Axeman may be able to add some advice.

Duncan.

The 3.3 Subarus are about 220/220 Bhp/lb. ft power and torque... similar torque
Syncro boxes about at their limit? But some known to survive ;)
