Are there differences in Automatic to Manual CU 2ltr engine?

Post by InventEd »

Hi,

I am the happy new owner of a 1982 T25 and about to take the engine out to repair it (its very noisy and metal particles in the oil!). I have a couple of questions that I have not been able to find answered hunting round the forums and Wiki. Any help would be very gratefully received!

1. Is the CU 2ltr Aircooled engine any different when it is paired with the automatic gearbox? I have found indications that it may use a different flywheel. Does anyone know if this is different and if there are any other differences?
2. The carbs will need replacing. Currently a single webber carb in the middle of the engine. Looking at the options for carbs many sold on VWheritage state they need modification for Automatic engines. Again does anyone have a recommendation of which new carbs to fit and any mods they will require for the automatic?
3. Any views on TheEngineShop (T.E.S.) as a replacement engine supplier? I cant find any reference to them on the forum but they supply reconditioned engines between the price points of VWheritage and Elite engines.

Thanks

Ed
