Replacement vapour canister?

Post by winthorpe »

Hi guys, I'm finding it impossible to get hold of a replacement vapor canister for my 2e3 carb.. Have tried Just Kampers, eBay and my local garage but they are nonexistent, apparently they stopped making them 5 years ago! Anyone had any luck finding one, or know of a model with 3 pipes that could be modded to work? the part number I'm looking for is 052127177c

Any insight would be a great help!

Many thanks,

Louis

Is a vapour cannister the same as a "swirl pot" ie a small tank on the carb with 3 pipes going to the top of it? If so, read on....

As far as I know they are not fitted on "normal" T25's but iirc they are fitted to Syncros, could be wrong.

Our MKII (85) Scirocco has one and if your van needs one (and that is maybe up for debate) then I bet a breakers or used parts place will be able to supply a Scirocco / Golf / Passat one.

still available from classsic parts I'd send Michael at Brickwerks (sales@brickwerks.co.u ) and ask them as they deal with Pierberg maybe able to find it cheaper

as stated only fitted on syncro can be bypassed without affecting carb performance afaik

bromyardvw who deos the carb rebuilds may also be able to help

Thanks guys, have emailed Brickwerks and will try some breakers yards tomorrow. My carb definitely has a vapour canister, as you said Ghost123uk it is the 'swirl pot' from what I can tell… The exploded diagram on Gower and Lee shows my part clearly (http://www.gowerlee.dircon.co.uk/2E3type.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), item code 15. The van is an auto if that makes any difference?

With regards to bypassing Aidan, is it a difficult job or just a case of joining some pipes together?! That may be the favorable option if I can't find a replacement. Fingers crossed I can find a compatible scirocco/golf/passat though!

Just join the appropriate pipes together. It's only there to make sure the carb gets fed with air bubble free petrol (iirc). Most vans. including autos, don't have them.
