I replaced my oil pressure switch tonight because oil was leaking out of the old one (the spade connector was always oily).
The new oil pressure switch came from Brickwerks and is the same as the old one, black for my 1.6 cs diesel. However when I started the engine the oil warning light now stays on all the time. I switched the old pressure switch back in and the oil light goes out just like it always has.
My question is, when the oil pressure switch fails does it fail in an open or closed position? I am presuming I have the correct switch and am now worried that I have been running around with dangerously low oil pressure because the old switch had failed.
I also have a switch on my oil cooler but there is no wire connected to it. I think the oil cooler has been added at some point because I have an early CS diesel with no buzzer of doom , could I connect my oil pressure wire to the one on the oil cooler or is that an oil temperature sensor. Etka suggests that it is an oil pressure switch but can anyone confirm this.
The part number I ordered from Brickwerks is almost identical to the one I found on Etka...068919081 but Brickwerks have added an A to the end but I think that is an error....the "A" switch is the grey one that switches at 0.9 bar rather than the black switch that is rated at 1.4bar. Brickwerks have sent me the black one just as I expected. Could the new switch be faulty?
Thanks for reading this long post

Re: New oil pressure switch now oil warning light on
If you don't have the buzzer of doom circuitry and the second oil pressure switch, then you need the blue switch. The blue switch is normally open and closes when pressure is there to turn the light off. The black switch is a normally closed and opens with pressure to activate the buzzer of doom. If you fit the wrong switch, you should find that the oil warning light is off when you switch on the ignition and comes on when the engine is started and oil pressure comes up.

Re: New oil pressure switch now oil warning light on
Thanks for the reply, I guess the black sender I have always had fitted is faulty in some way or is very old and is actually blue!!
I guess I now have a spare only used for two minutes black OPS that is of no use to me and need to buy a new blue one. My last order to Brickwerks has not been very lucky for me, I have managed to order the wrong Oil Pressure Switch, the wrong Timing Belt Cover, I need an early one the one I got from Brickwerks is for the later diesels, I do not seem to have any mounting points for the newer cover.
I have just read this wonderful guide to all things T25 it has very clear descriptions and answers to the most common questions...including my oil pressure switch problem

Re: New oil pressure switch now oil warning light on
Just a quick update, I re-ordered the correct oil pressure switch and all is now OK. thanks once again for the reply Marlinowner and the clear advice.
I managed to sell the incorrectly ordered items to a member on here so everything was not a total loss, I am still looking for an early diesel timing belt cover if anybody has an old one going spare.
