gearbox codes

Dear Oracle,

I have G543 DKA. 1.6td hightop. Gearbox going wrong. I checked the code by following Aidans instructions, and it reads BH 08 069. when i checked this on the web, it suggested that this was a gearbox for a Karmann Ghia. Is this the right box for this van, or has someone bodged it up? Any advice would be useful. Best regards, Thatsrustytoo.

it will be ABH which is a 4 speed 1.6TD box, is that correct ?

after the letter code the numbers are referring the date of manufacture. first two the days, second two is the month and the last one is the year. So your gearbox was manufactured in 08/06/1989.
The date is in the date range of the ABH code gearboxes according to this chart: http://t3-infos.de/images/T3-Getriebe.pdf so there is an A hiding somewhere.

Thanks guys for your replies. Apologies for not replying sooner. It's dark under that gearbox, and with my glasses, it was hard to see those pesky marks. We have identified the box now, and it is booked in with Aidan, in September, to be revitalised.
