Tracking

Post by dsmith1974 »

Noticed at the weekend that the offside front tyre was smooth (barely any tread left) along the outside edge (looks like within 75% of centre, so still legal..). Normally I'd just get the tracking looked at and consider a new tyre, but the other thing that's still happening is the same wheel is rubbing against the breather tank (esp around right hand bends and over bumps).

Would it be worth looking at the suspension/shocks too, Could it be the wheel rubbing against the breather that's causing the problem? The breather tank also has grooves in it now and looks like it will eventually wear through. The tank looks reasonably well held at the top (seatbelt anchor) on a new penny washer, I can't see anywhere to affix it at the bottom (against the wheel arch).

Thanks,

what size wheel and tyre and is the van running standard suspension ?

sounds like it has been lowered and or messed with inappropriate wheel tyre set up as nothing should be rubbing

Cheers. It was lowered by the PPO but the PO had it all put back to standard height, wheels etc. The tank fell onto the wheel not so long ago and the garage welded in a new seatbelt anchor and fixed it to that. Is the breather tank held at the top only or should there be another fastening lower down the arch?

It fits in to a recess in the wheel arch so it should be up tight to the top r/h or top l/h depends on what side you are doing . if its only fixed at the top it will just swing loose
