Engine & syncro gearbox mounting rubbers

Post by garyd »

Hi,
I have a syncro which originally had a JX TD engine but is now running a GTi engine. All the gearbox and engine mounting parts are unmodified.

I have become aware recently that there is quite a lot of movement of the engine-gearbox unit on the mountings. Can anyone advise whether the mounting rubbers should be considered a service item and if one should therefore expect to replace these at intervals? Or are they good for more than 25 years?

thanks
Garyd

I would say that the side engine mounting rubbers should only be expected to last 10 years max.
The transmission "clams" seem to last a lot longer, Boge did a good job on the
originals, they might be a bit hard after 30 years but seem fin and no sign of perishing.
