Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

engine cutting out and struggles up hills

Post by stokeseys1974 »

Hi. I have a 1.9dj lpg conversion pop top westfalia. Problem is it k cuts out when changing down gear. When started from cold i have to keep revs up to stop it cutting out and even when warm it will sometimes cut out when changing down.

I know these engines aren't the most powerful for the weight of the van, but it does struggle going up hills that aren't the steepest to be honest. Odometer reading 176000 km so should still have enough life left in it.

Any ideas / checks I need to do???

Thanks neil

You forgot to mention as to whether it does this on both petrol and lpg ?
Also, is this DJ on injection or a carb?

I went on a journey to woolacombe about three weeks ago. It seemed better on lpg going down there until I hit traffic and I think I ran out of lpg and quickly switched back to petrol which seemed to cause a struggle starting it and running rough.

I have changed the breather pipe because it had split. But back to what you was saying yeah on both lpg and petrol it's the same. And it's a standard car set up.

Cheers neil

I had something similar with my 1.9dg on LPG and petrol (although was worse with LPG) solved in the end by replacing coil, ignition module, spark plugs, leads and dizzy. Each made a small difference, I would start with plugs leads and dizzy, and work backwards.
