Just poped out and measured it for you
M12x60mm ( longer would be ok) at 90Nm they need to be high tensile 8.8 and looks like extra fine thread 1.25mm pitch also from what I can see but may be 1.5mm

Funnily enough I was looking in vw heritage catalogue this morning. I found the shock bolts listed at £25 each - that was indeed a shock of a bolt.. They are now out of stock...

ETOS is listing the bolt (M12x1.5x65, N 010 165 2) at £3.41 plus VAT from VW, the nut (N 011 020 7) is £2.32.

Thanks itchyfeet your info was spot on right down to the 60mm, plus you have pointed me to an excellent source of fittings, I ordered the nuts and bolts from Spalding Fastners on Saturday and they landed in my post box this morning (basically next day delivery) and I paid £7-00 for 2Bolts and 2nuts Post Paid that is excellent value and service in my book.
So the bolts are on and we are off to Beddgelert tomorrow thanks to you and club 80-90 :ok
