I'm just looking for some advise about refitting the timing belt cover to my 1.6d CS engine after replacing the timing belt and IP shaft seal.
The cover had been rubbing on the old tensioner pulley before I removed it (the cover had worn right through into a hole!)
So I've welded the hole and ground it all smooth and repainted the cover.
Does anyone have photos of what way the cover should be mounted so that it won't rub on the belt or any of the sprockets etc?
As far as I can see there are three mounting bolts - standing at the back of the engine, there is one at the top right, one bottom left and one on the front face of the cover. What fittings do you need on these holes? I suspect I am missing some parts or that they have been put on in the wrong places in the past....

Any photos of where it was rubbing?
If you turn the tensioner the wrong way when tensioning the belt it will tension correctly but the pulley will hit the cover

Hmm, can't remember what way the old tensioner was positionned but pretty sure I did it right (tightened it clockwise).MGP wrote:Any photos of where it was rubbing?

I'll have another look and take some photos when I get home later.

The yellow lines are where the cover was rubbing...

Not sure if I have the rubber mounting bits in the right places here?

You mean this one?
There is a metal bit going through the middle of the rubber grommet. Is there supposed to be something else there?

I think somethings wrong with that spacer do you have a bracket that bolts to the block for that lower fixing or is it a threaded spacer that sticks out of the block

There's a bracket on the block with a threaded hole in it for a bolt.

Looking at etka it would seem that you have the lower spacer and the one closest to the injector pump the wrong way round??
From where it was rubbing it looks like the cover is pulling in towards the block to far all i can sugest it try swaping the spacers and see what happens
