Fiamma Utra Box 320 (anybody use one?)

Post by nordberg »

Hi there,
I have a few weeks booked in for camping in the van over the summer period and prefer to keep the van free of clutter. I have a pop top and it's nice to have the flexibility of being able to get into most car parks. I am going to re-instate some roof bars that came with the van, but reluctant to use it for the reasons mentioned earlier. However, I do have a Fiamma Bike Rack on my van and have seen the Fiamma Utra Box 320 which seems to give the best of both worlds (although we will loose the option of transporting our bikes but we could live with that when we have cause to use the back box). My question is does anybody else use this for storage and if so how do you get on with it and do you have any pictures of one on your van? :D

This is the closest picture i could find of one on a similar sized VW but interested to see one on a T3/25

Buy a trailer?

Then you still have the bike rack option, and you have somewhere secure to store stuff out of the van that you don't have to drag around with you when you set up base. :idea

I have a trailer. Sometimes you get charged for them, sometimes it can be awkward with it on the back. Just thinking about alternatives. Intention would be to colour code it to my van. Thanks for the feedback anyway :D

OK. Just bought this Fiamma Ultra Box for a bit extra storage. Seems to give us the flexibility we need when we don't require the drive away awning. Most of the extra bits and bobs that we hoof into the living space (chairs, utility tent, chock blocks, collapsible bucket and washing bowl, etc) seem to fit in the box with ease and come withing the weight limit of 50KGs. It secures onto the bike rack and has a lock on the lid so I would be happy parking this up knowing there is an element of security in car parks (not that it's contents are going to be particularly expensive) . This will be our default camping set up for the foreseeable future with the trailer being used only when we need to accommodate the drive away awning :D . Bought it second hand for £150 which is a saving of approximately £200+ on a new one. A neighbor works in a spray shop so I'm going to put some of the cash I've saved towards having it colour coded to the van 8)

Sorry for the hijack but do those with the bag also use the optional internal frame?

Made this ourselves. took it from an old trailer. Holds a small shovel, dirty BBQ, towing cable, jumpercable etc. still need to put a lock on it though. (and a white licenseplate). Accesing the oil is a bit tricky, but a funnel works okay. which is stored in the box. Nice coat of paint etc..

All sorted. Color coded to the van (cherry red) with a cheeky little Westfalia sticker on the back.

Nice!
How much is it blocking the view while driving? Could you shoot a pic from the drivers seat?

Hi there. I won't lie, visibility is not good. Think I will have to rely more on my side mirrors. Still, you can't have it both ways. I think the benefit of keeping the living space as living space and not having to clutter it with outdoor gear is worth sacrificing the rear view for. I guess it's like anything, I will adapt my driving accordingly. Never thought i would get used to driving a left hooker but it's second nature now
