Glass Fitting

Post by crazymilk »

I have just finished spraying my van and very pleased with the outcopme being mmy first try!

Anyways I need to have all the glass refitted, I have purchased new OEM trim for all the glass however I am not very confident in doing the job myself and I have heard it is a royal PITA

I have called a couple of the larger well know windscreen companies to get an idea on cost and I am getting around £400 + VAT!!! No way Jose!!
Anybody got any info on somebody who may be able to help in the Bury St Edmunds/Suffolk region?

Thanks

Aye, do it yourself, very satisfying knowing you have done your own work (but I do appreciate that some people don't find it easy to get the time, and paying someone to do it is not second best. I'm just really skint and this is the only way we can afford a van, and the resultant holidays, and doing it myself salves my inner mechanic). Use sealant - Arbomast Autograde by Adshead Ratcliffe is dirt cheap, and never sets - so never cracks. Just stays nice and gungy. Fit seal to aperture first, then fit the glass, bottom edge first. If you fit it top edge first you'll end up dropping it (I did manage to catch it with the toe of my boot tho...). Having a pal helps. If you use a seal with an insert (whether black or bright) use the recommended tool to insert it, and use soapy water to lubricate it on it's way in.
