What I found under my cooker...

Post by Ant-t »

I found a fitting in the cupboard below my cooker, it looks like an original fitting or at least period and it's wired into the fridge electrics in the lower section of the cupboard.

The fitting separates with a cigarette lighter type socket, any idea on what it is or does or does anyone have similar? I'll post up some images shortly.

Well that is a fairly standard cara van power plug and socket. From what you say, my guess is it is a connector to power up the fridge off 12 Volts (only done whilst the engine is running or you will flatten the battery) but a simple check of where the wires go and come from would tell you. If I am right, it is a bodge though, it should be done with the correct relay for the job, or at a minimum with a properly mounted illuminated switch.
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

Thanks for that, I've got a 2 way fridge in the van so it looks like a PO has tried to make it 3 way... the wiring doesn't look great so your probably right about being a dodge

That is the original factory fridge plug and socket for an Autohomes Kamper, and it would have been fitted originally with a proper two circuit relay, (for fridge and split charge) and a ZIG unit, so would all have been properly wired. The original fridge would have been three way.

That's how my van was, and confirmed by the Autohomes manual.

[E D I T] just noticed the other wires added into the plug. They are not original, and I think they are the bodge! [/E D I T]
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

The Autohomes wiring diagram shows it with a black & a black & white wiring. My fridge is the original two-way one.
