knocking noise
had this knocking noise a few weeks ago on my kamper, then it stopped now its back, its quite loud when in gear then when I take it out of gear and roll its a lot quieter but as I go faster it gets faster, thought it might be bottom of gear selector as I can rock it and it hits against the metal cover below gearstick.Cant really explain it but not an engine or wheel problem.

Re: knocking noise
What you need to do (put on latex gloves first) is get your hand inside the trailing arm from the back and feel the CV bolt heads and see if any are loose or sticking out more than they should do.

Re: knocking noise
And don't keep driving it until you have checked them. If they break (and they do when they come loose) you will be stuck at the side of the road and also have the mither of removing the broken ones and getting new ones.

Re: knocking noise
Ideally you want splined bolts as they offer more when it comes to tightening but crucially each bolt needs a friction washer underneath it to prevent a repeat. If any are missing and you need the job done, you could roughen a standard washer using whats known as a "bar-steward" file, or even a star or spring washer is better than nowt.

Re: knocking noise
Rough and middle are coarser than a bar-steward file and are more suitable but not so easily got hold of. More important is for it to be a single cut file as a double will smooth it too much. Now you will want to get the correct washers rather than hunt for the correct file!
