Clutch Problems. Cant move or get gears easily..

Post by mines a money pit »

Can I pick peoples brains about an issue I have with making my van move? Need it to be able to be moved as share a unit and its currently immobile or can just about move at best meaning its in the way and starting to cause a bit of conflict. Clutch pedal seems to give little to no resistance and cant select gears. Did manage to find reverse eventually with a bang and crunch but struggled to move and couldn't get over the tiny step out of the unit without a push. Gears were a little difficult when I got it but clutch seemed OK so surely cant be the clutch itself. Its only been stood a few months but was stood for around 5 years before I bought it. Anyone got any ideas? As I'm new to most aspects or this and if I'm honest totally clueless :(

can you select gears with engine not running ?

if you can select first gear engine off will it then start with clutch pedal down and then engage as you lift off the clutch or is it starting in gear - if it's starting in gear then the clutch is not working or the input shaft is seized on the spigot bearing, if it's the clutch it maybe the hydraulic side so you need to observe what is happening at the slave cylinder when the pedal is depressed, check the slave for leakage - often the boot will be full of fluid no obvious leak
