Additional heating

Post by Budgie7 »

Hi ladies and gents, hope that someone can help me, I am half way thru converting my Caravelle and would like to fit another source of heating for when we are camping. My van is a petrol 2.1.
I would like a independent heater, that runs of gas, diesel or what do you think.
Like so many of us , I am on a budget so good second hand would be better, or again what do you think
Thanks for any help

A propex gas heater is probably the simplest and most readily available secondhand, there are a lot of old propex heaters around as BT used to fit them in their vans. I bought one off eBay and it is working fine but did require new ducting and a little bit of fettling.

Thanks , I am watching one on eBay at the moment, but it needs 12v for the fan ? Is this right.
Won't this drain my leisure battery quite fast .
Thanks again

The fan (essential) does draw from the leisure yes but it doesn't draw too much and will usually run for a night or two. After all, its not on permanently. By then you've usually gone off sightseeing or out to get more food/beer and charged the battery up. I don't use hookup at all (entirely self-contained) and manage fine. If you set the heater to kick in only when it gets exceedingly cold, it'll last even longer.

During the week I use my Propex first thing in the morning to warm the interior and leave it on until I arrive at work. I also have a remote control so no need to even go outside to put it on. If you use gas for a cooker, its fairly simple to add the Propex to the same line.
