T25 WBX coolant change question

Post by marke »

Hi folks just a few questions I want to shoot out.

The coolant for the WBX type, is it available in normal shops such as halfords?
I know the purple stuff is on brickwerks and I am going to order some if I cant get it in the shops.

I have done a few small things on my van but I want to be able to do more, would having a pair
of RAMPS be a good purchase?

(Not only for the coolant flush guide on the wiki but for generally getting underneath)

Best deal right now is litre bottles of the red stuff from Euro Car Parts. Get the antifreeze in first then top up with water. That way you know strength is correct. You have to rev engine higher than you think.

There are 2 guides on how to bleed air from the system but none on actually draining them out.

I assume that I could drain the whole system dry somehow, close the plug, top up with the required amount of coolant
and then top up with water, then go through the bleeding method, is this right ?

That's about it, yes. But you'll never get all of the old coolant out. In my experience it's difficult even to get enough out to get all of the required red stuff back in. There are drain plugs on the undersides of the heads but these will be inaccessible while the pushrod protector plates are in place. Since you can't get all the old coolant out it's a good idea to flush it all through with a hose pipe to help clear sediment and to make sure all that's left in the system is plain water. What colour is your existing coolant? If it's green you're not supposed to mix it with the red, for instance. Once you're sure you've got only plain water left in there you can then fill up with the red coolant and you'll know the mixture is the right strength.

Hi folks, a couple of follow ups

where can I get the correct coolant for T25, brickwerks is out of stock on the purple stuff.
brickwerks says "G13 equivalent" I looked in haynes manual and it talks about G12 (I assume that its been replaced by the newer G13)

would this be ok:

I am trying to find out how to drain and flush out the coolant correctly.
I have no RAMPS and also the haynes manual talks about the lowest point/pipe to drain it out
but how do you then flush it through if you have a pipe open halfway round ?

See this thread: https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... 02&start=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That'll be twice as much as you need, but if you try and buy half as much it'll cost about the same!

Yes, disconnect one or more of the lowest pipes, then stuff a hosepipe in there, with rags around it to bung it up a bit. Wear your wellies - you'll get wet.

That's READY MIXED so you will need 16 litres! about £35

You don't really need the purple (G13) you are paying more for a product that is slightly kinder to the environment, it performs the same as the pink G12+

This is a fantastic bargain at the moment.....more than twice the amount you need but add ETRA5 on the checkout and you can buy 20 litres for £28.50 and then flog the 10 litres on to someone else and get half your money back.
