Locating rear seatbelt mounting point?

Post by Emma&Al »

I have these on either side of my Caravelle - were these the original seatbelt mounting points ? I suspect they were to do with locking the rear seat in an upright position instead?

I *thought* i found the mounting point to the right of the window, and very slightly up, behind the interior trim...but when I cut it it just seem to be a screw...although there is a dent in the trim both sides... according to Just Kampers description on the seatbelt instructions, it should be here??

Locating rear seatbelt mounting point?

I think Brickwerks have a fitting guide on the page for their seatbelt kit which shows the installation:

https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php/ ... it-t3.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The anchor for the belt loop should be about 2/3 of the way up the front half of the rear pillar, and the anchor for the retractor should be three bolt holes in a horizontal line just above the engine lid and out of the bottom of your first picture. The remaining anchor points should be below the middle and at the ends of the bench seat.

Ok so surely this should be fairly easy! :oops:

I ordered additional seatbelt mounting plates (pack of 2) from JK as I heard that they come without them. But in the instructions there is no mentioned of a mounting plate, so im not even sure where they go. Its telling me to use a 'stepped washer' (I had to google that as didnt know what it was, but eventually realised it was provided) and then next to that a flat washer (but quite a chunky one) which they havent provided?? Im so confused!!

Secondly I cant get the seatbelts to come out of the reel! Is there a knack to this?

Thirdly I have found the mounting point behind the lining, so i've cut that and discovered that, but where I need to fit the actual reel further down, the 3 pre made holes are too small for the bolts the JK have provided... if I used other bolts that are smaller is this going to affect the functioning of holding the reel in place...

OH dear, it appears I'm not very good at this!!!

Any ideas? sorryyy. :shock:

Reels need to be in the right position for the belt to release. Mostly this means vertical, though some reels are adjustable by swivelling the hub at the front until the arrow points vertically downwards. The adjustable type can be fitted at any angle, as long as the arrow is vertical. It's quite common for them to 'lock' (that's what they're designed to do, after all), but trial and error will find the best position, and they will then release, as long as it's not a sudden grab.
Not sure why you're looking for two top mounting points. My Caravelle rear seat belts are mounted directly onto the rear post, and that's it. The belt goes from there over the back of the seat, and the bottom end uses the same bolt that holds the seat base in place. So, just two bolts for the main belt, and one for the short part (with the clasp), in the middle behind the seats.

tforturton - thank you !! Ok, so I may not even have to use the mounting points then , if its a Caravelle? I bet this is just so easy, I'm just not seeing it!! I took out the original rear seat some years ago and replaced with an orginal Westy rock n roll bed..

Clift_d - you are amazing!!! Thank you - at last, I can now see it!!

We installed a three point belt in the back of our Westy in basically the same manner as the Brickwerks guide, with the exception that we used one of the T4 seatblet trims they sell to bring it neatly through the panel below the window, similar to what is shown in the VW diagrams earlier in the thread.
