Help identify this part please (with pictures)

Can anyone confirm that this is the correct insert for the choke pulldown vac pipe
This is what came out of mine it only as a hole at one end (how does it vacuum)
From cold the van as always overfueld choked when first started but with this removed it now revs high straight away quick blip of the throttle and it idles as it should no over choking
Dg engine and choke pulldown unit working as it should and choke gap set correctly

The insert merely smooths the choke flap open and close operation, on full choke, when you you stamp on the gas under engine warm up conditions.
If it didn't move the choke then it's faulty.

Without it the engine might hesitate on acceleration during warm up on very cold mornings (6 mins or less depnending on ambient temp )

Kev it drives exactly the same with insert in or out
Itchy does your insert have a hole at both ends because mine as a hole at larger end and no hole at smaller end if you look at pics u can see
I've had a needle down it but it's solid metal at the end

A needle might be too fat - try a strand from some speaker wire or similar. And push it from the narrow end - I think the hole might be centred at the end of a larger channel if you push it from the fatter end, so you might 'miss' (treading very carefully here to avoid being taken out of context!).

Not taken mine out, perhaps the other hole is at the side?

Itchy it does run exactly the same its just when first started from cold the revs are high till you blip throttle doesn't over choke engine though so leaving it without insert for now till I get to the bottom of 'is there a hole isn't there a hole'

Defiantly no hole on the smaller end of the insert ..there is now though ,I managed to force a small needle through the end not an easy task. Very odd that it must of left factory like that no wonder I could never sort over choking from cold fingers crossed this will cure it once and for all, will try it tomorrow

Again a guess but I'd say small end, I don't suppose VW/pierburg pushed it down the rubber pipe,I bet it was placed in the pull down pipe then the rubber pipe was added.

The insert is not really concerned with that, the high revving is due to the fast idle mechanism.
I think itchy has a video showing how smooth the choke operation is with the restrictor fitted.
The choke flap is opened by the pull down using vacuum, as you accelerate, too much vacuum would open the choke too fast on a fully choked engine, and equally close it too fast as the vacuum dies off.
