Replacing roof vent - any help appreciated for novice!

Post by Emma&Al »

Ok so the next job is to fit a Fiamma Skylight.

The previous skylight blew away on the motorway according to the last owner (my friend whom i sold the van to 7 years ago!)..so she never got around to refitting one and in desperation, glued a piece of see through plastic over the hole which leaks with persistent rain!

I have a Fiamma skylight ready to fit and I have Sikaflex.
Now im wondering how to go about doing this - i've looked on youtube, but haven't had much success.

Any help at all in the form of direction would be gratefully received as I've never done this before!

Thank you, Emma :D :pimp

Have you measured if vent mounting hole is bigger than existing hole in metal?

Well the inside part of the vent fits flush with the wooden frame :)

On the box looks like hole cutting dimensions, I can't read it but if the hole is too small you will need to cut it larger, a metal cutting blade in a jigsaw will do this.

If the hole is too big then you will need to either weld or rivet or stick some metal back in somehow.

you may have to rip all that off to see what size the hole in the metalwork is.

Crumbs, ill have to check - I bought this roof vent years ago for another van and didnt end up fitting it. Its been in the loft ever since and I pulled it out recently. It *looks* as if it will fit and maybe I am being optimistic - ill have to measure properly tomorrow.
Thanks 8)
