Is this right?

Hi,

I took my van for a drive this morning and all was well until.... I think I stalled. Not sure though as the problem I am having is that it keeps stalling at 1k rev or less. It was running fine, sitting in traffic went to pull away and stall. I was in a hurry to get home so didn't stop and look straight away but kept restarting it and got it home.

It was running a bit lumpy but started up ok. Came back from work and started it up 1st time and the choke increased the revs so it would idle but slowly it died. Took a look at the engine and what I think is called a bypass valve was out of its hole. See pic

Now I have no idea how it fits back in. When I google that part it looks threaded but if you look at mine there is no thread on the outside. What's happened? The weird thing is now it won't start at all. Ps 2.0 cu petrol air cooled.

Help would be great. Has somehow the bit unthreaded or has a bit come off and I just need a new one.

Threads have simply worn away. They screw in. Not sure where you can go from there other than using metaL putty but then that presents a problem if it ever has to be replaced.

Ah - wait a minitute. Looks like theres an insert screwed on (threads beneath the insert), in which case just use metal putty.

See the plunger? Next bit of the body that looks polished is the insert.

Is the threaded casing still in the carb?

What is metal putty? Is it something I can get from a motor factors? Just put it in the hole and then put the whole thing back in or try and unscrew the polished but and metal putty it in and then screw the rest in? I'm guessing the first? Why has this happened?

Oddly, poundland do a version with a strip of repair putty pellets on a card. I've used it numerous times and it seems up to most jobs. Not sure why its happened but looks like the valve may have been screwed into the insert too tightly. Ideally you want to roughen insert to get a reasonable bond but depends how loose it is. Loctite might do a better job. See if theres any way you can get the insert unscrewed first but go steady.

Well I go past a halfords on the way home so will probs pick up the one from there. Do you reckon I Gould buy a new one from GSF or stick with this one? Don't want to putty it in place and find it was the problem.

Not GSF, but try Gower & Lee for the part
get the case unscrewed first
you'll still have to glue it in

Thanks everyone. So I managed to get the threaded tube off and use the metal putty to affix it back in. I just stuck with my existing one and put it back in. Still wouldn't start but a wiggle off the wires around the idle stabiliser and up she started . Wahoo.
