Hi All,
My new van has had a squeaking / grinding noise on it since I bought it.
Its speed relative as it slows down when going at low speed and increases as I speed up, I have checked the breaks but can't see anything catching or stuck.
Any ideas what else I could look at? Could it be a bearing although it has not long passed its MOT?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you.

Re: Squeaking / Grinding noise
You can check bearings by jacking up relative corner, grasping the wheel and checking for roughness on spin as well as trying to rock it and check for play. MOT not really a perfect filter for some issues.
Mine passed but there are noises I'm not happy with.

Cheers Cov kid,
I have given them a wiggle a while back but the noise is getting worse so i will check again. It's convinced its on the drivers side aswell so I'll check them first.

Re: Squeaking / Grinding noise
I had a similar problem on last van and turned out to be front n/s wheel bearing, so changed them both BUT as ever with these vans ended up changing pads disks and calipers!

Re: Squeaking / Grinding noise
Would it be considered a great risk to take it to vanwest and then get it sorted after?

Re: Squeaking / Grinding noise
Just popped in to say that this can occasionally be caused by a simple pebble or similar trapped in the calliper (assuming front). But it could be a bearing and you don't want to drive it if it's that. A bearing collapsing can be serious to your health or your bank balance.

If it definitely is the wheel bearing then I'd go with what John says. I drove mine, stupidly, for a few weeks with the bearing grinding but think I got lucky. Not to difficult to do yourself if its the front wheel. Ideally you want to do them at same time but you could do the bad one before vanfest and the other after.

Re: Squeaking / Grinding noise
However, if it's the rear one, they are more tricky
(and you need a VERY strong socket and a VERY long breaker bar
)

Thanks for the info guys! I reckon I could get it changed before I head off to vanwest!
