Water on the brain... leaking roof / tailgate

Post by andyk »

hello all

Rain is leaking into the back of my T25 Camper which is a bit of a bind when you're trying to sleep. The van is a Bilbo conversion with a fibreglass pop-top roof on top of the original VW metal. The rain is ultimately coming in through a seam in the original VW metal roof at the top left of the tailgate, but how it's getting to that point is unclear.

I have renewed the rubber seal around the tailgate, also there a seal between the pop-top roof and the metal roof which I have renewed using silicone bath type sealer - but it's still leaking!

Can anyone help - please??!!

Ive got the same problem, same conversion too.
Done the silicone bit but it aint worked. Next job i'm gonna do is change the hightop side window rubbers as they are very hard and deteriating badly, might be tracking in from there. I dont seem to have problems during the rainy summer months but every winter with lots more rain the water gets in. It only happens on the near side in side the roof space almost where the van gutter is. its not so bad that it then gets any further. Im using silicone crystals to soak it up till solved coz i dont want that damp mouldy smell gettin in van.

Got em from Just Kampers. They are the rubbers for the side windows on the van its self. They look identical to the rubbers on the hightop side windows. They are advertised as the ones for non factory fitted windows.
One set should do both windows.
