Can anyone advise on how to repair the speedo unit?

Post by Daco »

I have a faulty speedo unit. The cable is fine as I have tested it. The speedo needle sticks in places, when it moves that is, is there a way of cleaning this and lubricating it? Where can I find one for sale if it can't be repaired? I've checked all the connections so I can only assume that it's the unit it self.

Any Ideas?

Be interested to see the fix as mine started doing this a bit.

Sticks at certain speeds and then might get going again later on.

Was going to try lubricating the cable.

I got a mate of mine do attach a drill to the hub end of the cable after checking that it was properly secured at the hub. I uncliped the cable from the back of the dash and when we tested it with the drill all was good.
After fitting the cable to the speedo unit, we checked again and it was intermittent. It would get stuck on 30mph and I would tap the dash and it would drop again. Sometimes it would stick, sometimes fine for a while, sometimes it would stick at different speeds.

I know it's the unit with the dial that is iffy. I would happily replace it for a new one if I could find one, I also need the clock on the right to be fixed as the hands are missing.

I'm a bit scared of taking the unit apart.
