Headlight question
Hi, ive recently got a good second hand H4 headlight (thanks jon) but the fixings are different to the originals, now ive had stacks of vw's over the years & know the hassles they involve, but only 2 t25's.
My original leftside h/light fixes straight to the brace/support bit that fixes to the bodywork, and the right side which is not a H4 has a ring which the lamp fixes to 1st then fixes to the support bracket ???
Are the left & right supposed to be different ?
Or am i missing something here ?
Its a 1980 cu.....

Re: Headlight question
Nope. Your existing one is a normal fitting. Is it a ring with three tabs?

Re: Headlight question

Hopefully this pic has worked, as you can see the old 1 on the left has the tabs in a different place....

Re: Headlight question
One on the right is US spec. It should still fit. Been hunting for a source for those rings.

Re: Headlight question
The MOT manual does state matching headlamps although chances are the tester wouldn't notice. US spec? is the pattern correct...

Re: Headlight question
Light unit looks correct but to my knowledge the ring fitting wasn't used in the UK.

Re: Headlight question

Re: Headlight question
I wouldn't worry about the slight mismatch. As long as you can fit and adjust each, you should be fine. Its cosmetic really. Doubt you'll get another ring. I've been after a pair for months and even if you do locate some, they won't be cheap.
Might be worth your while looking at: https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... &start=105" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It documents a way you can fit a brand new pair of modern headlights for under £30 for two, but discusses retaining rings.

Re: Headlight question
Just spotted this thread. I sold the light unit on the right to VWAddict, whilst I knew there was a difference between the H4 and earlier bulb version I had no idea there would be a difference between US and euro. My panel van is RHD but was previously registered in europe, could it be possible it got US headlights from new or does the collective hive think they've been put on later on in life?
Interestingly I never even picked up any difference when going through the powerful-uk headlight thread.
VWAddict - Sorry if the headlight has caused you any major problems and hope it gets sorted.

Don't worry. It is not US spec headlamp it is RHD the yanks haven't driven on the left side of the road since independence.

Re: Headlight question
The headlight unit is RHD but the fitting is that used in the States. Presumably the two became one at some point. I'm not aware of that fitting being used outside the USA unless its from some far flung place.
