SB diesel install-which alternator bracket

Post by mig »

:ok I have an SB from a Golf almost fitted in the van,the injection pump is off at the moment so I thought I would take the opportunity to swap the glow plugs and possibly swap the alternator bracket.
The original bracket from the golf allows virtually no adjustment before the alternator hits the engine lid.Does anyone know if the bracket from a JX allows more adjustment towards the floor( for want of a better description) in order to fit a shorter belt?(I don't have a JX bracket to try)
Thanks

IIRC the JX ancillaries are the best way to fit the SB engine, should avoid any interference or other fitting problems. Pic below from when I fitted one a few years ago, alt isn't fitted but shows all the other JX bits. Possibly on a bus a rebate from the engine hatch is needed to clear the LDA, mine was a pickup so not an issue.

PS. Do you need a shorter alt belt ?
