Caravelle - interior lights for rear passengers

Post by Emma&Al »

Hello all,

I have a caravelle/transporter with a light in the middle of the ceiling in the back for the passengers and another at the rear. Neither of them work - nor do any of the interior lights inside the bus. Where do i start first to eliminate the problem? Ive just taken the plastic cover off the middle one..to find 2 tube lights insdie...im guessing its not the bulbs thought because none of the lights work.
Please tell me in very basic terms as im a beginner!! :)

Thanks a lot, Emma

Check the fuse.

Check the bulbs - I agree it's unlikely if they are all out but never assume + they are the next easiest thing to check.

Check the earth (create a temporary one that you know is good just to check it/eliminate it as cause). But knowing you have a working bulb first always helps :rofl

Thats me - i'm sure someone with a wealth more knowhow and knowledge will be along shortly.

Good luck and well done for getting stuck in - you can come and give me a hand fitting my power steering rack if you like

Tubes are cheap enough from a caravan store , I paid 2.80 for my last one, worth it to see if it is the tubes but only after you check for a voltage at the unit. The tubes usually start to go black at the ends when they are nearing the end of their life. (just like some 240v ones) New tube units are on ebay for around 5-10 pounds if it's the circuit rather than the bulb.

Thanks all - I'll try and get some pictures up. The bulbs arent 'sounding' broken when I shake them lightly nor are they blackish at the ends.. Hmmm. Well worth trying new ones I guess..to start with

The trouble is, whilst they may have been a popular form of lighting at one time, in a camper where battery power isn't unlimited, it makes far more sense to move to LEDs now. You can generally fit LED alternatives in the same case or replace it entirely.
