Diesel Alternator - Split charger - charging signal volts?

Post by mahatmacoat »

I have a diesel AAZ motor in my van & have just installed a split charge relay & Eberspacher. I have searched through loads of threads & found that the D+ or charging signal wire from a pole on the back of the alternator to the dash light & so to pin 86 on the relay is BLUE (Din No. 61) (Thanks Simon B & Beaker). Please let me know if it's not!

I only have another small red lead from the alternator which comes from a spade connector near the bearing on the back of the alternator which gives 0.7V at idle!

What I want to know is what voltage should I be seeing from it? I'm currently getting 2.4V with the engine idling! Should it be more & if so what's likely to be causing it - I guess regulator.

Just want to be certain that I'm actually charging the battery before I run it flat.

As always, thanks in advance.

Best way to check your battery is being charged is to puy a voltmeter on the battery.
12V with engine off.... 14.5V engine running.

Is the 'other wire' the rev counter lead? Oil burners dont have a coil or contact breaker system to feed a tacho.

I have a blue wire and a red one and I used the blue one. I suppose the red one was for a tacho.
