How expensive is this going to be!!

Post by adhoc1979 »

Took my van to the garage yesterday for some new tyres as it threw me off the road whilst braking on the way to work. When they jacked it up to take the wheel off, my heart sank. The trailing arm was hanging off. Totally gutted, not sure if its the bracket or the sill/body. :(

The bracket sill and and body, all meet there, so it will be all 3.... Not a cheap repair to do right.

I inherited an Austin Maxi years ago from the then father-in-law, one day it passed the MoT and 2 days later it nose dived into the tarmac - the sub frame had rusted away completely. Since then I have relied on my own inspections and not use the MoT as an indication of condition.

I bought a van with 11 months test on it, all 4 jacking points are shagged and the trailing arms are just about hanging on - just. It wasn't even painted or covered in underseal in an attempt to hide nothing!
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?
