Electric fuel pump - fuel lines LEAKS

Hi,

Installed Facet fuel pump, it works but fuel leaking badly on the carb...i mean soaked the engine in fuel. fuel line has ID of 7.4mm, OD of 14.2mm and I have 13-15mm fuel clips....replaced the fuel lines throughout.

Its also leaking on the pump, both the brass fittings are tight, fuel clips are also tight...

Is this fuel hose too big ???

First question.
Depends upon the size of your spigots - have you measured them to see what size hose you should be using? I thought that you petrol lot used 7mm hose to start with? Kev will know better than I.
I use 4mm hose on 5mm spigots as an example.

Probably leaking at carb because float valve worn and its showing up now its under pressure - I had that issue to start with. Leaks in other areas - only you can see why.

Whare have you fitted the pump?

Pump is at a 45 deg angle on the sub frame under the van 20 - 30 cm after the fuel filter. Based its fitting on big herbs location and picture.

Is it worth exchanging the unions on the pump for 6mm along with 6mm R9 hose ?

Well I didn't but I did replace the entire line so I'd only got one hose from pump outlet to carb inlet.

I also fitted a carb kit to stop the over-fuelling.

What size are your spigots? Without knowing what size they are it is impossible to know what size hose to use. It needs to be a tight fit before the clips are tightened.

Facet generally has 8mm fittings.

If the leaks are coming from the ends of the fuel line, are you using proper fuel hose clips =



or nasty "jubilee" clips =

Hi,

Replaced fuel hoses again with 6mm this morning, much tighter fittings all around and yes with proper fuel clips and not the crappy jubilee jobbies. Bypassed electric pump and van started, ticked over nicely, running off old mech pump then died.....

Fuel pump purchased was - Facet posi flow with 8mm fittings...
The one I bought was the 60106 model, rated at 4-6psi and not the 60104 rated at 1.5 psi - 4psi. BIG pressure difference.

So also new pump ordered....with 6mm fittings as well and will refit next week.

General update....

Spent 2 hours fitting the replacement pump to the sub frame, an hour of this was trying to get a nut on inside of subframe. Anyway all is done and van is running sweet. Had a blast at 60 mph around the airfield and its running the best I've known for years...no fuel leaks anywhere I'm very glad to say.

Will post some pictures up of the end result tomorrow when its daylight again.

Bloody thing doesnt work today, and its raining...unbelievable. hows my luck ?
No power to pump, although there is 11.9v out of alternator..

11.9V is nothing, sound like your alt isn't working and your just measuring battery voltage

That was the power for the fule pump from the back of the alternator theres a spare temrinal to a 10A fuse and then onto the relay.

Now its working again, although I am not sure what I did. Would a dogy alternator give me this seemingly random fault ? How can I test it to be sure ?

There isn't usually a 'spare' terminal on the back of an alternator have you attached it to the terminal that is intended for a suppressor? 11.9v is a pretty flat battery and no output from the alternator.
