Newbie here with unusual T3
Hi all,
Newbie to the forum here so Hello to all! Great site by the way - been browsing for a while and now I have a question if that's OK.
I currently am in Spain and bought a very nice condition T3 with a demountable/collapsible camper on the rear - HOWEVER can't find any makers plate, references, nothing on the web..... so.... has anyone any idea at all who may have built this. I've been on all the demountable sites I can find but nada (nothing!)
Hopefully someone can give me some idea of manufacturer. All the internals date to 1985 (pump, light fittings, etc) and the registration date of the VW is 1985 ..... so..... guess it was built as new..... definitely in Germany - it's an import to Spain.....
Hope the images uploaded OK.......
Regards
Mick the Vic

hi, nice camper, don't know what yours is, but whilst looking through internet i have come across a few companies that made camper backs or conversions, Tricher, not sure if that is spelt correctly. Roadranger, ADS who did a rear slide out and i have seen a pic of a van that has been lengthened and has bischofberger written down the side, not sure if this is the manufacturer, let me know what you find, wozza.

Re: Newbie here with unusual T3
Hey thanks for the quick replies but.....
.... I've pretty much scoured the i'net and seen many many demountables..... but really nothing just like this. Someone I know suggested it may have been built for some expo..... but by who is quite a mystery.
There really are no external tabs, plates, marks, stickers..... nothing. I've had campers just about all my life.... including living in a converted Plaxton built Ford coach (12 litre diesel!) for 4 years...... just never seen owt like this. I guess it's going to take some 'oldie' who just knows what it is.
It could be home built, but internally it's so complex with the lift and drop, and demounting..... it has better internals than my old Bedford 2.5 overcab camper......
Keep coming back guys.....

i had all the chrome plating done on my classic stuff there, very nice rates and superb quality, some is still as good as done in the 70's, his son now has a plating business in its own right.wozza825y wrote:if thats plaxton the coach builders i drive by the factory every day its in scarborough north yorkshire. i have a single cab pickup and plan to build a demountable camper unit with a pop up roof similar to yours. some one on here might have the answer to yours. wozza

Re: Newbie here with unusual T3
Where is the chroming business now, i could do with a decent plater, metalmickey. As for the demountable camper there is a demountable club in the uk maybe they could enlighten us, wozza.
Re: Newbie here with unusual T3
Well guys I'm a bit stunned..... over 350 of you have looked at the pics but no one suggesting they have any clue who built this.....
I suppose in the long run it doesn't really matter - I'm not trying to sell it.....
I've been swapping out the 30 year old skylights (480x480) for new ones (standard 400x400) which took quite a bit of work, but such a huge improvement.

Re: Newbie here with unusual T3
Also as the camper had no shower or loo area I decided to rip out some of the plentiful cupboards and drawers to make a space.....
And then the clean up.....
Marine ply and paint....... (Notice the space underneath creating an overlap so that I can still gain access to the engine... quite tricky but it works well)
(see next post - can only upload 3 pics here....

And finally....
I'll have to put a shower rail and curtain to fill the 'gap' - the top folds down fairly closely over the side wall. Also I need to find a way to prevent the loo from shifting under braking!
Onwards and upwards!

Have you tried posting your query on 'the samba'? Much greater number of members, someone must have an idea - you just need to locate that someone!!
Great van by the way, certainly won't miss that coming at from the opposite direction.

The folks in samba wont have seen anything like that, pritschen and doka were never officially exported to the USA so they are very rare over there.
I would ask on the german IG-16 forum (even though its a 16" syncro forum its free to join and there is a lot of knowledge to call on)

Bizarrely, I seem to see tonnes of pics of Doka's over in the states. They clearly like them, are they all private imports? Buggers have more than their fair share of them!

The ones that have been imported get a lot of attention. Something called the "chicken tax"
