Bonding panels on?

Post by Drucifer »

Ok well a few of the panels on Busty could do with replacing, mainly the rear arches/rear lower corners and been told by the body shop guy at the garage my son is doing his apprenticeship in that could just bond them on as no access to a welder as he thinks they are not load bearing. I have bonded on body kits, external arches and even skins to doors before but never seen it done with these sorts of panels.
Is it safe and does anyone actually do it? I know the stuff that would stick it as used to work for U-POL/Isopon.

Cheers

I've bonded panels on my van. The only reason being that I didn't want to remove the interior, other wise I would have welded them as normal.

Cheers well guess I will take a look at the panels in question and if they don't support anything then may give it a go.

That's all I was planning on doing but the bottom of the rear pilar and engine bay tray needed repaired so there was something to bond onto. Also the panels need serious work to get a nice fit as you are not clamping and welding. I cleco pinned it all together till I had the seams as nice as I could get before bonding, once it's pinned back in place after its bonded remove the pins and pop rivet the hole, this pulled the seam tighter and held it all in place till the bond set. A lot of extra grief but it saved removing the interior, other wise I normally weld them.

Cheers for that, it makes it a lot clearer on what is needed, as they say a picture paints a thousand words.
