What glass for my converted panel van?

Post by Jonnyb416 »

Hi all,

I have put a wanted up for the glass I need for my converted panel van but was wondering if I don't find someone who has what I need where else can I get the correct glass from? I spoke to a bloke why runs BSG glass in Bolton and he says that only do straight cut glass, however, I have been reliably informed the glass I need is slightly curved.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Jon.

Not sure what you mean here - are you after window glass removed from a stock vehicle, or are you looking for glass that will fit a non-standard retro-fit window? I guess it's the first one.
Try Parts Emporium online - they always have loads of windows available. Or send an PM to a couple of the traders who post on here (ie. nw_vw_t25). Nothing to do with me, I just notice his adverts.....

Cheers. My van was originally a panel van so I need windows that will fit it. I have some glass but they don't fit as they come from vans with factory fitted windows. Still not sure if that's clear lol.

I've emailed emporium just waiting to see if he has the sizes I require. Will try nwvwt25. Thanks again. Jon.

Did I mention it's glass for the sliding door window and the other near side window behind the sliding door?

I had a couple of cracked windows in my panel conversion so I took them to a small glazing firm in Buckley North Wales and they used them as templates to make new ones. I think they cut the radiuses by hand, but this was the same as what was in the van originally. They fitted well once I put them back in. It's a big task to find glass to the exact size you require as I looked for while. I even bought some bigger windows from vw tatton park and was going to cut the apertures bigger. Are there any old school glazers by you?? Regarding the curves you mention do you mean the radiuses on the corners? The panes of glass are usually flat.

Thanks for the reply. I've been told the glass needs to be curved to follow the contours of the van.

I'm pretty sure that most panel van conversion windows are flat glass. Even factory fit windows look flat to me. The double glazed outer unit on high end vans has a curved surface. If there are vans with curved glass I'm sure someone will be along to say so. :ok
