New starter required for Westfalia California

Post by wbmkk »

I have a 1.6 TD 1989 California and need a new starter

Is it best just to buy a new one (and if so, from where) or should i consider getting the existing one refurbished ?

thank you

Contrary to belief, there are very few new ones around. Almost all are refurbished/exchange ones (and nothing wrong with that) but as others have often said, it usually pays to find a local business, take your old one along and get a quote for having it rebuilt. Go by recommendation. You should get a good deal if you ask around, somewhere in the £45-£80 bracket. £100+ at GSF etc.

Often all thats worn is the brushes and its possible to do at home IF you can get it apart.

Many thanks !

I took it to a local business who refurbish motors. They had a look at the old starter and thought it best to get a new one. The connector needed replaced anyway.

At £65 +VAT that seemed the best bet
