New Owner - Child Car Seat

I have just purchased myself a 1988 Holdsworth Villa 3, well i pick it up in a week and cant wait.
A quick question? My young lad is 6 years old and i know that the van is fitted currently with 2 lap belts in the rear.
How hard would this be to convert to a 3 point harness, even if on one side only, considering what the Holdsworth Villa 3 looks like inside?
I have read that you can get a conversion done, even DIY, but would this be simple in this type of van, ie removal of interior etc.

It depends on what base vehicle was used by Holdsworth for the conversion.

If the base vehicle that Holdsworth used was a caravelle/ minibus type body shell then it will have the extra mounting points for a three point belt already integrated in the structure. In which case you can get a seatbelt kit from Brickwerks and fit the three point belt yourself - see the link below for the left side kit, but they also do a kit for the right side:

If it started out as a panel van and had the windows cut in, then it may not have all the seatbelt mounting points, in which case you can get the same kit, but you'll also need to fit some mounting plates, which is a little more involved. I used these guys. http://www.quickfitsbs.com/ It wwasn't cheap though. They initially wanted to fit one mount with a splitter to divide across both seats abit like the middle seats in a 7 seat people carrier. I insisted on one mounting per seat. When they did the work I did think that it wasn't that difficult to do. They just cut out the old lap belt mounting bolts, fitted new belts in their place and a couple of mounts and spreaders in the air vents.

I've just done the same thing in my new (to me that is!!) autohomes komet-based on a panel van so no fixings in the body work. Wasn't too bad to do yourself if you're handyish-just put four holes in the body behind the seats after taking out the air vent for access-these supported the belt reels and hangers -then unfastened some of the existing belt bolts to swap for the news fittings -granted that one was rusted in and had to be ground out and a new one fitted! Anchored both belts to the same side of the van (without cupboards) on the one furthest away I fitted two clips to the belt so that it works like a lap belts but with one end anchored to the side of the van. Just need the anchor points spot welded and it's job done! Can post some pictures I'd it's any use (and if I can work out how) good luck with it & enjoy the van!! Love mine so far!

Also did my Komet only 2 holes needed, used a securon kit from E-Bay and a mounting plate, took all of 40/45 mins to fit

£40 max very easy

I like the job you done to the rusty seam and the fuel filler. Looks good. How did you repair the seam?

Cant take the credit for the panel/seam work, bit the bullet and took her to a local body shop with lot's of experience in older cars.

Got the belts from just kampers- also needed 4 anchor plates S they don't come with the kits-all the other fittings are in there-sorry for the late reply-was away with work all last week-will post some photos when I get chance but likely to be the weekend now
