ss exhaust

Hi folks-just wondering if anhone has any experience of the JK ss exhaust system-I've got a 1989 1.9 petrol autohomes Komet. The exhaust system is looking a little tired and as we plan to keep it for a long time-thinming this could be the way to go. Just wondering if it is all ss or if some parts aren't. Any advice / comments from anyone who has one would be very greatly appreciated.

Don't know about now, but a few years back their systems were made from very low grade ss.

Have you looked at vwspeedshop systems? V good vfm/quality

Yes the Speed Shop Stainless steel exhaust is good quality, good fit, nice sound and price ok too.

Thanks for the tip-looks good from what I can see-one thing I don't wuite understand is that on current system on my van there is a hose that seems to fit onto the exhaust after the first manifold on the drivers side-another hose comes off it just afterwards. On my van this part has rusted to the point that its actually rattling against the main exhaust.I'm assuming this might be some sort of heat exchanger? On all the ss systems I've seen, they dont seem to have anywhere for the hoses to attach to the exhaust.

The "hoses" you refer to are for preheating the air intake air - they would have had corrugated hoses connecting them originally. Dont worry - not needed in our climate.

hi, the just kampers exhaust is made by JP exhausts as seen in link below.. i brought one direct from them 2 years ago before jk started selling them. It has proved a good exhaust and comes with lifetime guarantee, it is all stainless apart from flanges to heads (for some reason) also the u clamps provided are mild steel, very cheap and rusted very quickly! I brought stainless ones when i transferred exhaust from my dg to new dj as the milds snapped on removal.

Ive not had problems with exhaust but will say the stainless tarnished very quickly so now looks like a standard one..

I am not a fan of JK so i would suggest buying direct... and to me the build quality/ pipe routing looks better than speed shop one.

...and exhaust comes with the preheat off shoots so you can buy new pipes and re install, as mentioned not so necessary but possible.

.....just looked though and JK are over £150 cheeper than on jp's website!

Thats great-thanks for the information-really appreciate it! I'd heard of a few systems (not t25's) that were sold as ss but had a few steel parts as well which of course ended up falling apart!

I'm thinking about a SS exhaust also but for a early system (84). Not sure what the differences are but, the speedshop ones look good, not yet found any bad reviews...

Just bought a 3 month old JK system and yes, it is showing a lot of discolouration but for me, I'm not bothered as I won't be cleaning it, as for the mild steel flanges - they're never going to rot to be honest (not come across any rotten flanges on all the rotten mild steel systems I've replaced.
