Propex heater help

Post by Cornish wrecker »

I have a red box like propex heater with thermostat in my 81 autosleeper Aircooled.

It works for 5 mins then cuts out with the standby and lock out button light up. Then intake and exhust are clear. I had it check out at a caravan place and the guy said it could be the thermostat or the heater itself.

He said a place in southampton re-con's the heaters for £160 ish.

Can anybody suggest where I could get hold of a thermostat first of all? Someone mentioned Bluebird??

Any idea's on who can re-con these propex jobs?

Thanks

before you spend money make sure the battery is nicely charged and the gas supply is constant.

then maybe by-pass the thermo (connect the wires together) to see if it runs constantly

if you are electronically minded, work out which are the trigger wires on the stat and link them out to give a permanant call for heat! this will determine if it's the stat! lockout usually occurs if the flame goes out or fails to light! is there enough gas pressure? you could try taking it appart and cleaning the jets and the gas cutoff solenoid!

A mate of mine has one of these in his Bay

He reckons that if the ambient temp drops much below freezing the gas also freezes in the regulator, stopping the heater from working.

Is this a known issue or is it just him doing summat wrong ?

What Gas in he using. Had one in my boat for many years and used to sail all year round, never had that problem. The Red BOC or CALOR gas are the ones that I used to use. I think it was Propane.
