Hi Everyone,
My first post here after buying a T25 Hightop.
The problem I have is the temp needle rises immediately to the far right position on turning the ignition on - The engine is obviously cold and the needle just rises straight away to max position.
The little red light used to just flash when I first turned the key to show that it is working and then go off - Now it just flashes all the time.
I took it to a garage who said they do not think the engine is overheating and they replaced a sender but the problem did not go away - The garage said they do not really know much about these old campers and it is best if I take it to a specialist
Any idea what could be causing this?
Thanks for any help.
Cheers
Temp gauge always moves to the far right position

Re: Temp gauge always moves to the far right position
IIRC earlier vans will do that if the coolant level's low - or if the dash _thinks_ the coolant level's low. If the level's correct, disconnect the sensor in the top of the coolant tank and short between the two pins on the plug, so that the dash "sees" the level as OK. If that stops it being mischevious, then the wiring's all OK. Take the sensor out and give it a good clean.

What age is the van?
what engine is it?
It's custom here to put this in your signature to help us help you
I think they behave slightly differently if its early or late, it may help to fault find.
First thing i would do is disconnect the temp sensor wire or connector and see if it still does it?
then pull relay numbered 43 in position 3 this is the low level sensor control unit and see if it still does it?

Is good advice (as always) but just to add, do it with the ignition off, then turn it on (with the prongs/pins shorted with a bit of wire) and see if the gauge behaves. Reason being, this low coolant warning system needs to be re-set if a fault condition occurs, by turning the ignition off and then back on.
By the way, you have checked the obvious I take it = the left hand white coolant tank should be full to the brim. (might be not a fault, it might be just doing what it supposed to do !!)
Oh and welcome to 80-90 by the way

Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

Re: Temp gauge always moves to the far right position
Thanks everyone for the replies - My van is a C reg 1.9 petrol.
I will try out some of the suggestions and hopefully I can get the temp gauge working.
Cheers,
Steve

Hopefully fixing this little issue might encourage some learning about your van and what makes it tick.
