Has anyone had a Westfalia pop top fitted by someone they can recommend?
I have a donor roof on a van in Surrrey that I want on my 16” syncro.
I don’t mind helping out but am looking for someone with experience and garage space.

Hi Gary. The roof top is a different moulding on a Westfalia and to do it properly you really could do with grafting the whole top roof section on. It is not an easy job but worth while.

Let me know how you get on.
I didn't realise the roof was different. I've got a similar problem whereby the last owner has started to put a westfalia-style (not sure if it is proper westfalia) pop top on and kind of abandoned it half way with just the hole cut out from the middle sunroof. I'm tempted to get the roof off and weld the hole shut. If you find anyone they I might be tempted to keep it.

I fitted the roof from a Westy Atlantic to my tintop myself. Took me (and my father) 2 days. On the third day I went off camping - this was in august this year when we had that REALLY wet and wild week (weather wise! nothing kinky....); stayed dry and cosy.
Didn't have any problems with differing roof shapes or any such. I only cut a 'half size' hole (a true westy 'hole' is almost full length I just took out the area between the ribs but gives plenty of room to stand up in main area). By having the smaller hole you can't re-use the Westy bed in its original configuration as it sits below the roof line. But it was very easy to adapt the bed to go on top of my rear roof section (with suitable load spreaders). Plenty big enough for my 2 kids for several years to come.
I debated doing it for over a year - wish I'd done it sooner.

Re: Westfalia pop top fitter?
I've recently bought a Westfalia roof, and hope to take it down to Ady at Boxwagen in Bournemouth, who has done a few of these already. According to him, it's not as hard as it sounds. Take a look at my thread in Bodywork for photos of his work - it's called "I've just bought a Westfalia Roof" or something similar - don't know how to do links....

Re: Westfalia pop top fitter?
The only roof conversion I've seen used just the tin section of the Westfalia roof, not the roof down to the gutter
Is that what you keen bu using the Westfalia roof?
