stainless steel exhaust

Hi Folks

Need to have a new exhaust, and decided to go down the stainless steel route. Was going to buy one from Brickwerks but they are out of stock for 8-10weeks. So have found a company called LongLife Exhausts, who make them to fit.

Anyone had any dealing with them, and also they offer a Quite, Mid and Full sport option, don't want the full sport but wandering whether to go with the Mid, but would like peoples input on this, as not sure whether we would get fed up hearing it??

Have you checked? or have you actually checked? Brickwerks often show long lead times on their SS systems because of their popularity but in reality they routinely keep several in stock.
When I ordered mine there was something like a 6 week wait showing on the site, it arrived in 3 days.

yeah i emailed them and they responded with 8-10 weeks unfortunately.

VW Speedshop system is spot on. Plus the lifetime warranty is transferable. Oh, and it's a balanced system, unlike (most) others.....

Does this mean that the pipes are of equal length ? if so does this mute the unique boxer sound ? part of the boxers charm is the offbeat exhaust pulses .

I've got a Speedshop one, I love it, but not all of it is stainless. The mating flanges are carbon steel (?) I believe. .

Pipes all equal, doesn't affect the unique sound, but slightly more throaty than the standard system. Not boy racer noisy at all though!
Most, if not all SS system manufacturers seem to use non stainless for the head flanges. When I questioned this, in some detail, it's a deliberate design to assist the mating faces/gaskets to seal over prolonged period. Something to do with not mixing metals iirc.
Fab system.
Also consider using the very best quality new exhaust studs (again, not stainless though) and the correct brass exhaust nuts. Iirc two of them can have an exterior size 1mm down from the others, to assist spanner work adjacent to the tight, inner radius of the J tubes.
And then there's the subject of new engine mounts and a tune up so the new exhaust is not shaking itself to death every day....!

I've seen a few by torquetechnique.co.uk, very impressed especially as I know of one that is 6 years old and is still doing the job. Salisbury based, lifetime guarantee and very reasonably priced in my opinion. Santa is bringing me one - apparently!
