Suggestions needed on some welding please

Post by nutbox »

Hi there ,
I am in the process of doing some welding on my van ,and I am working on replacing the sill panel that has the lower channel for the sliding door seal, and whilst cutting out the metal I noticed there was a dodge repair at the bottom of the b pillar so I though I cut it out and see what it's like behind .
Image

What I am wondering is all that metal of the inside of the b post suppose to attach to the lower part,or is it just a case of getting an outer panel and welding it up?

Also is it possible the cut out and replace the corner tray in the engine bay without removing the wing?

All help greatfully appreciated thanks dazz

well ref the picky ,you see the folded bit of metal with a hole in it, well thats the reinforcing part for the jp and the inner part is also very important for the integrity of the structure, you need to curt away the b post outer up to the swage (rep panels available) also you need to take the rear part of the front wing off to make good the rest of the B post inner,
you want a link to how its done ?
also ref the rear, yes you can do it, depends how bad it is and how well you want to do it, again you want a link ?

1.5mm nothing here should be less, you can use 1.2 for some of the other less important areas

Depends how many hours you want to put into it. Quite a lot of work taking out the slider track. If your track isn't too rusty I'd try to leave it in situ and work round it.

Are you sure you need to cut the inner post? It might not be too bad. Just weld on a patch at the bottom.

To be honest with you , It just looked like surface rust on the inner post ,it might probably worst on the other side lol.

On mine I ended up drilling out the spot welds on the front arch and separating it from the front of the B post and then rebuild the B post, then re-attach the arch.
Grit blaster would clean that up.
