Inner/Outer Sill and JP rot- Advice needed

Post by pistachio »

Hello everyone,

We're dragging our beloved T25 out from several years of neglect, and desperately need some advice on the sorry state of her sills (amongst others probably) and necessary welding to get her back on the road. Mechanically she still runs great, after sarran1955 rescued our holiday 3 years ago and virtually rebuilt the engine. Unfortunately the same can't be said for much of the metal work which was completed by the owner previous to us.

I'm hoping the indispensable 80-90 hive mind can look at these photos and advise what welding needs to be done. Also, where can we source inner-sills since JK and Heritage appear to be on constant back-order.

Many thanks.

i think i d be ordering up inner and outer seals both sides . sliding door runner repair sill .and some sheet metal , if your doing it yourself .

jk's , schofields , euro car parts all do the panels .. none seem to be ridiculously expensive .

i've come to the conclusion that all replacements panels require fettling , so its more the removal and correct fitting of the new ones that is more important .

having said that there are far more knowledgeable people on here when it comes to metal work .

jesus, hate to say it, that needs extensive work, id personally look for another van. You could transplant your interior and engine into another van. Would be easier in my opinion . When was it last on the road? Id say your trailing arms will be shot as well. You could buy the panels ( you will need trailing arm brkts/hangers as well),but you may have nothing to weld them to (sills).
We should all start to live before we get too old. Fear is stupid. So are regrets.

Hey,

Thanks for the initial diagnosis, and its mostly as expected.

She was last on the road 3 years ago, so we knew full well she'd be it a fairly rough condition now. Add to that the fact we know the work done on Tilly previously was botched everywhere, and it's no surprise it won't be an easy fix.

None the less we're keen to have a go, and have a competent welder whose ready to take on the challenge.
MM: I'm having a look through that thread now, thanks. Which parts are we likely to have the most difficulty sourcing/need to have made?

Thanks again.

inner sills ,i have some oe ones but they maybe for a project , patterns work so so £130 ish
the lower fridge side pannal needs making to fit the patter lower sill, and you will need the inner closures as per the thread
you can get away with an overpanal but they are not right really if your going to all this trouble,
also the rear jp/arm mounts can be a pain and need lots of fabrication and correct alignment, no one cap fits all im afraid

OK, will get lots of reading done and come back with more questions if necessary.

Holey moley thats pretty crusty.
Repairing the sill area/track under the sliding door is quite involved, specially as it looks like the inners and outers are pretty badly gone.

The first posts in these pages gives an idea of whats involved with the lower sliding door track and sill area - looks to me like yours needs the full treatment - even more than mine actually - I was lucky in that my inner sills were perfect.

Thanks boatbuilder!

These threads and pictures are really helpful in getting an idea of what will be required. I'm going to show them to the welder at the weekend and see how he feels..... :run
