Hi - has anyone else had a problem with brake pad spring clips breaking all the time? Am I missing something?!

No....
So yours are early fixed 'two pot' callipers, either ATE or Girling.
Both use two pins that go through the calliper to retain the pads...Girling use R clips through small holes in the end of the pins where as ATE use sprung metal sleeves around the pins, that are drifted into the calliper. Both methods prevent the pins from moving.
Then there are two different anti rattle plates that basically apply spring pressure to the pads to stop them rattling around.
Which bit is breaking?

Thanks - I have the ATE ones. The bars are held in via the plastic sleeve which compresses. The springs are cross shaped and are held underneath the bars to apply a small amount of pressure to the pads, but keep snapping in the middle.

I'm still at a loss to explain why this would happen. Those springs never snap, unless they are badly corroded?
They just aren't under much pressure as it's function is to apply a bit of force to the pads to stop them 'rattling around freely'. What would really help here is if you could take a picture so we can check everything is fitted correctly.
FYI the sprung retaining sleeves on the end of the pins are spring steel....definitely not plastic lol.

Re: Brake pad retaining clips breaking problem
I went to a friends garage and we fitted another fitting kit today. Three of us confirmed its the correct way and took pictures to prove it incase it happens again. I think it could have been something to do with the anti squeal shims that were fitted. I have got rid of these as they made the pads feel too tight, and the pads have what I assume are the same thing attached to them. Either way, seems to work for now.
