Erba expert - midlands area

Post by Jim San »

I'd like to get my erba tested and running soon.

I know very little it, I dont think its been running in a long time, I dont think it is even connected, the control panel has a broken knob (cant find one like it so would probably need an alternative.

Can anyone suggest anyone in the Shropshire/Midlands please

Oldiebut goodie is your man but I guess he will tell you that the early models are obsolete now and very difficult to get parts for. You maybe reliant upon used parts from another (if you can find one that is) to fix yours and I can't really see any registered gas fitter doing this.
There are alternatives of course.

No Eberspächer dealer will touch them now as said. If you aren't capable of tackling it yourself it is replacement time. Though if you are petrol it is worth trying to get it back to working order if you can as petrol heaters are rarer secondhand. I get very few and they are snapped up quickly.
D2L can successfully be replaced by a Webasto Airtop 2000 if you are handy - it will fit inside the D2L casing quite easily and you just need to use a mounting plate to attach it to to the D2L casing. You then need to run the new air ducting up inside the old. (Trucker on here and I sorted that out so know what to expect - he is pleased with his conversion)
Slight plug ......( I have diesel Webasto Airtop 2000 heaters, 25 at the present, for sale all the time + some others)

Yes, sorry I did man Erber or erberspacher.

Dont know which model it is but I found out today that the van had little use in the 10 years prior to me buying it so I figure the heater has not been used either.

Sounds ominous then!

I was chuffed there was one fitted - hey ho

I think you will find that when stripped it will physically be in good condition. The innards of the unit reside within a sealed box so irrespective of the fact that it is mounted externally, I think you will find it in remarkable condition....then you need to work through possible reasons for its non operation.

Cheers Martin,
The whole thing actually looks on good condition, case, pipe work etc. Regards stripping it down, i'd really not know where to go with it! I wouldnt know how to test things or how to measure the level of performance or safety of it.

I impressed myself in th elast few days having stripped and replaced the rear wheel bearings on my Syncro - but this is something i'd sooner have done by someone with the knowledge to do it properly- maybe it would be quite straighforward once inside but I dont want it to become a case of being stripped off the van and lying on my bench for months :rofl
