Replace leisure battery - advice please!!!

Post by Devon Pete »

Hello all, I have a Westy Cali and I have just noticed that the previous owner installed a car battery under the seat where the leisure battery is meant to be. I have purchased a new leisure battery and just went to replace it, only to discover that the seat base overhangs the battery cabinet, meaning the old battery won't come out and the new battery won't go in as the gap is too small, as the seat base from the ISRI seat overhangs it. I'm not a fan of the trial and error approach so was hoping someone far more competant than me could confirm (assuming this is needed at all!) how to remove the swivel seat and the base and how to put it back. Also, is this defo required to replace the battery?? Let me know if you need photos...

Planning a camping trip on Sunday so urgent help would be great!

Cheers, Pete

Pete,
Try spinning the swivel seat either 90 deg or 180 deg and then try.

Hi, yes I've tried that but there's still too much overhang (annoyingly). Thanks

The main battery is a doddle as you can turn the right hand seat through 180 degrees. The only way I found to change the leisure battery is to slide the driver's seat off its runners at about 80 degrees angle and then turn the base round a further 100 degrees. It's a pain but that's how I do it. I hope the new battery actually fits, because most are too big to fit, so I just use a normal battery.

Thanks for that, I will give that a try! Nothing is ever straight forward! Presumably the seat can just slide on and off without too many isues? I bought the battery from alpha batteries and it states clearly that it fits a T25 so fingers crossed!

One other issue - I need to remove the drivers door card to fix the lock. Does the door card just pop out with a bit of pressure (I don't want to snap anything by forcing it if there is another way).

Cheers for your help!

Sorted! Thanks very much. I actually managed to slide the seat off in the forward sitting position, without any rotating. New battery to be installed first thing tomorrow! :D
