1.9 dg cutting out

Post by boldbloke »

Has anyone else had this problem. Our 1985 camper has recently had a recon engine fitted and it normally runs well but has started to cut out on overrun. It back fires and cuts out only to restart immediatly I turn the key. It has also had a new coil, ignition control unit and distributor, could it be the fuel cut off valve on the 2e2 carb. Any ideas

Where did the new dizzy come from?
has timing been set properly with strobe? Bad timing can cause this

Check the vacuum advance is working and vac pipes have no air leaks
look for air leaks around the carb by spraying with wd40 on idle, if revs go up theres the air leak, air leaks can cause this

Check air cut off valve on carb by taking connection off top centre and reconnect with ignition on, should hear it click

finally do a compression check, worn valves can cause this

pierburg is a 2e3 on these
