Ok here is my prob when under hard acceleration in 1st and 2nd gear about 2/3rd of the way through the Rev band the engine seems to cough splutter and hold back for a couple of seconds before clearing and reving clean through. It is almost like it's over fueling as if choke was on. I'm almost sure I've seen a puff of black smoke from exhaust in the mirror . Engine is 1.9 df and apart from tappet rattle is healthy .
I have renewed all vac pipes, plugs, air filter and going to renew fuel filter and remove a secondary filter in the engine bay tomorrow .
Any thoughts would be good ?

Tappet rattle is not healthy
It is compramising the valve timing, it may contribute to a flat spot
I would say it's an advance timing issue though
