old triumph 500

Hi all is there anyone who can help me with a triumph daytona 500 1973 my dad recently got his bike back on the
road been fine up too now until in the week when starting it you turn on the petrol tap then on priming it the petrol
pi$$' s out of the primer you have to turn the fuel off tryed agian then tryed again then the same but ontwisting the throttle very fast several times it stopped it the chap who sorts his bike is away on his hols just like to sort it for him

Sounds like a bit of crud is stopping the float valve from shutting off properly.

Or the float valve's plastic tip is damaged by fuel containing Ethanol. Quite common these days. Amal do a replacement "Ethanol proof" version. Another reason why not to put Ethanol containing fuel in our classics.
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here
