distributor help

Post by coolrunnings »

had pete from gasure come and tweak my mixture settings and set my choke fully open. he found the vacuum advance can had failed.
ordered a new one from simon at brickwerks and fitted yesterday and now the van won't start.

i was very careful not to move anything to ensure it went back in the same position but now with messing about i may be 180 degrees out.

how do i sort this out.

also looking from the top of the distributor there is a plate with a black lug labelled 13 21, this is the plate that the vacuum advance can attaches to, this is very stiff to move. should this be any position or just where the vacuum advance can allows it to sit.

please help urgently.

all sorted, and van starts now. not sure what i did. but removed distributor and aligned with no1 cylinder at TDC. Location dogs on the distributor shaft do not align as per Peter Russek manual, ie/ pointing between distributor mounting stud and fuel pump mounting stud. Mine points fore/aft in line with engine, but rotor arm points at No1 HT lead.

The genuine item isnt cheap, unless Si has got an alternative supply, but you can get a beetle one to fit.. needs a slight adjustment to mounting holes, but works..
